Seattle Temple through the rain

Peggy and her family had the special opportunity today of doing temple work for Ronald's dad and also Ronald's dad's parents. My job was to pick up Kayla after the baptism portion and drive her back to her house so she could go to an EFY activity. While I was waiting, I had a lot of fun experimenting with my camera and trying to get pictures of the temple through the raindrops on the windshield.

Ryan's "Before" mission picture

This weekend is my nephew, Ryan's, missionary farewell. This past month Ryan has been a little rebellious (LOL) and has refused to shave or cut his hair. This is the result of the past month's growth and the way he greeted Mom, Dad and I as we arrived in Seattle...

Sunset from the Skies

As Mom, Dad and I flew out of Salt Lake on our way to Seattle tonight, we got to enjoy this glorious sunset over the northern end of the Great Salt Lake. It was beautiful!

Bountiful Temple at night

One of my New Year's goals for this year is to get to the temple at least once each month. With only a few days left in January, I decided tonight had to be the night or I wouldn't make my goal. It was a nice evening and I'm glad things worked out so that I was able to go.

Fruit Snacks

I have discovered that whenever I eat a little package of these fruit snacks I break out in a sweat. Little beads of perspiration build up around my hairline and along my nose. It's really weird. I think I'll give the rest of the little fruit packages to my nephew.

Banksy Graffiti Art & Sundance Film Festival

Today after church I decided to go for a drive up to Park City to get a picture of the graffiti art that was left on one of the buildings supposedly by the world famous British graffiti artist named Banksy. No one has ever seen Banksy but he has become quite famous for some of the art that he has done around the world. This year at the Sundance Film Festival, a film is being released about Banksy (Exit Through the Gift Shop). Unfortunately, there is also talk that the graffiti might be removed possibly at the end of the festival, so I decided to head on up and get a picture while I could.

While I was in Park City, I joined in with the other "star-gazers" to see what celebrities were in town.

The guy in the stripped beanie standing back against the wall is supposed to be Ashton Kutcher. I'm not totally for sure on this one, though, because I kept getting "Tweets" today on Twitter and Ashton Kutcher seemed to be watching Brett Favre in the football game.

Tom Arnold on the phone
(everyone seemed to be on their phones)

Dax Shepard and Katie Aselton. I was standing next to Katie's "editor" when I took this picture.

My Wii & Mii

Today I went shopping and used a rebate (Visa card) to buy some accessories for the Wii that I got for Christmas. I then spent some time customizing my Mii and playing several of the new games.

Tanielle's 28th Birthday

Today my oldest niece, Tanielle, turned 28 years old. I can hardly believe it. I got to go over to Lana's house after work and join in with the birthday festivities. We had sloppy joes for dinner and cupcakes/ice cream for Tanielle's birthday. Lana and the girls decorated the cupcakes with the letters "Happy Birthday Tanielle" (one letter on each cupcake made with tiny silver balls). The cupcakes were then all lined up in perfect order on the table. I thought it was nice to see that I'm not the only one in the family that has OCD tendencies...LOL

My Kitchen Sink

One of the things I learned from my mother is to never leave dirty dishes in the sink. Thanks MOM for the things you have taught me!!!

Clean Air

A storm came in yesterday and into last night and cleared away all of the bad air and smog. It was wonderful to be able to see across the valley today and to also feel the sun. This picture was taken from the same location as the pictures from 2 days ago and today you could see all the way to Antelope Island. Two days ago it was gray and yucky and you couldn't see anything. It's amazing to see the difference!

Channel 4's Good Things Utah

Today Jayna and I were part of the television audience for the broadcast of Channel 4's "Good Things Utah." We were even on TV for a brief minute when they scanned the audience before going into a commercial break (picture taken off my TV from the recorded show). It was fun seeing how the show is filmed and put together. Today's segments included: Cook with Tom (we heard some good tips about using vinegar in cooking), Mr. and Mrs. Scrapbook, the "Vibes" dance group, Clean Your Laptop and a cooking segment showing how to Simplify Supper (http://www.simplifysupper.com/) which was demonstrated with a recipe called "Baked Penne" which everyone seemed to love.

Nicea DeGering, Angie Larsen, Marti Skold, Reagan Leadbetter

---------------------
Baked Penne recipe:

1 pound penne noodles
1 jar Alfredo sauce, 26 ounce size
1 jar marinara sauce, 26 ounce size
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup grated parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook and drain pasta. Mix the two sauces together in a large mixing bowl. Add mozzarella cheese and combine. Add drained pasta. Pour into a 9x13 casserole dish and bake about 25-30 minutes until hot and bubbly. Sprinkle parmesan on top and bake another five minutes.

Where oh where did the blue sky go???

For the past few weeks the air quality has been the worst I have ever seen. In fact, a couple of days ago Utah was rated as having the dirtiest air in the nation. Today I couldn't stand it anymore and had to go for a drive up on the Farmington bench just so I could see some blue sky for a few minutes.

The first picture shows the smog we have been living under, the second picture shows that blue sky still really does exist if you can get up high enough.

New Favorite Snack

Thanks to my sister, Peggy, for getting me hooked on these cherry tomatoes! I absolutely love them and I can eat the whole package all by myself in one sitting if I'm not careful! They are very YUMMY!

Recycling

One of the things I am doing this year to help REDUCE...REUSE...and RECYCLE is to reuse my grocery bags. This is a bag that I take with me whenever I do my grocery shopping. It sits next to the front seat of my car so it is always easy to get to. It is also quite deep and can hold a lot of food. It's nice to not have to deal with all those plastic bags when I get home.

Looking for Bald Eagles

January and February are two big months at Farmington Bay for bald eagle sightings, with February 13th being named Eagle Day. So today after church I took a drive to see what I could see. I didn't spot any bald eagles, but I did spot this hawk...(at least I think it's a hawk)...sitting in one of the trees. I'll have to come again in a few weeks to see if I can see any eagles.

Ahhh...Relaxation

Tonight I ran about 5 miles on the treadmill and ended up injuring my knee in the process. Relaxing in a hot tub of water provided some much needed therapy.

The Days Are Getting Longer

On my way into work this morning I was able to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. This is a great indication that the short days of winter are beginning to get longer. YEAH!

Dr. Pierce's Barn

This barn is one of the famous icons of Cache Valley. It sits along side the main road (Highway 89) that leads from Logan to Brigham City and can be seen by everyone, especially if they are heading west. It advertises "Dr. Pierce's Woman's Tonic" which dates back to the 1920's. I have driven past this barn hundreds of times and it always seems to catch my attention.

Putting Puzzles Together

Today I spent the day playing with Zach. We had a lot of fun! We went with Grandma/pa to pick up some prescriptions then came home and got some lunch. After lunch, we spent time playing games and putting a puzzle together. I found this puzzle in the closet the other day and Zach has had a fun time putting it together. It has 100 pieces, and yes, we had to count them all :) Zach is really good figuring things out and loved the challenge!
