Fry Sauce

One of the quirky things Utah is known for is....FRY SAUCE! It was first invented in 1948 by Gary Roberts, President of Artic Circle restaurants. In 2002, there was even a fry sauce pin created for the Salt Lake Olympics. The basic recipe is: 1 part ketchup to 2 parts mayonnaise.

I LOVE FRY SAUCE!!!

Mystery of the shoes

Every day when I go to and from work I pass these shoes hanging from the power lines in front of one of the local elementary schools. About 6 months ago, there was just one pair of hanging shoes but last month a second pair of shoes joined the first pair. I've always wondered the story behind these shoes and I hope some poor child hasn't had to go shoeless.

Tire Maintenance

My car has really been shaking lately when I drive at speeds over 70 mph so after talking to my Dad, I decided it wast time to take the car in to get the tires balanced and possibly aligned. Wendy told me it would cost around $60.

Well, when the Big O guys pulled the front tires off the car they discovered the tires were split apart in several areas. In fact the splits were so deep they were even showing several of the metal fibers. So, to make a long story short, I ended up with 4 new tires and an alignment which cost me $560 instead of $60. UGHHH! Since my car is front wheel drive, the tires are a little more expensive than regular tires.

On the positive side, though, I at least now feel safe. In fact, I don't know how I have made it this long, especially driving to Logan last week, without one or both of the tires blowing out. I think I have truly been watched over and protected.

Evening run

The days are now beginning to get longer and the weather is starting to improve so tonight I took my exercise routine back outside. This is the trail that skirts the townhouses where I live. The loop from my house is approximately 2 miles. It was great getting outside again!!!

Sundogs

Tonight as the sun was beginning to set I noticed this huge sundog in the sky. Guess that means that a storm will arrive within 18-36 hours.

Winter at Willard Bay

Tonight on my way back from Logan, I decided to pull off at Willard Bay to see if I could get a picture or two of the lake. Willard Bay holds lots of memories for me. I've waterskiied, wakeboarded and jetskiied here several times throughout my life. I've also stopped at this lake and watched the sunset over the water several times. I've never been to this lake when it has been completely frozen over, though, so these pictures are a first.

Fun with Zach

Today I got to spend the day with Zach. He has been looking forward to me coming to visit since Christmas and today we finally got to spend some time together. First, we went shopping for puzzles then stopped at the store for some strawberries (that's what Zach wanted for lunch.) After lunch with Grandma/pa, we put the puzzles together, made valentine sugar cookies, played games on the iPod and built towers with the dominoes. We had a great day!

Vancouver Winter Olympics

I absolutely love the winter Olympics and this year they are in Vancouver, Canada. The opening ceremonies are tonight and then the games begin! This year, our school district's Superintendent's secretary, Carolyn Roberts, has a step-son that is going to be participating in the Freestyle Ski races. His name is Nate Roberts. This sign was made in his honor.

Snowy drive to work

This was my drive to work. However, when I went home it was sunny and the snow was gone. I love this time of year when the snow doesn't stick around for long.

Eagle Watching

Today after church I went out to Farmington Bay to watch the eagles. Oh, how I wish I had a longer lens at times like this!!! The eagles were absolutely amazing and fun to watch but it was definitely hard to get a good clear picture.

Legacy Parkway

This is a picture of the entrance to the Legacy Parkway freeway after exiting I-215 in North Salt Lake. Legacy Parkway is an 11.5 mile four-lane freeway that runs from I-215 on the south and reconnects to I-15 on the North in Farmington. Construction began in 2006 and was completed in 2008. The freeway opened on September 13th.

The effect I applied to this picture was the "solarize" filter in Photoshop Elements.

Snail Mail

Sending letters through a physical mailbox is almost a thing of the past and I find that I very rarely have to rely on sending mail through the Post Office anymore. I can buy a book of stamps and it lasts for a very long time. Tonight, though, I wanted to get a birthday card (with money inside) to my nephew, CJ, for his birthday so I had to resort to the "snail mail" system.

Hill Air Force Base

Today I had to go do a computer training at Hill Field Elementary school, a school right next to Hill Air Force Base. As I left the training, I noticed that some F16's were taking off for some practice flights so I pulled over on a side road and tried to get a picture or two.

Here is an F16 on the ground taxiing for take-off ....

and a few minutes later it was in the air...

It's amazing how fast these planes fly!

Cafe Rio

Today I went with Jayna to grab some lunch at Cafe Rio. I didn't use to like Cafe Rio because I'm not really fond of Mexican food, but I finally took a chance and found something on the menu that I actually really like.

My favorite item on the menu is a Tostada with sweet pork but I ALWAYS order it with NO BEANS. For the toppings, I typically order cheese, pico, sometimes guacamole, chips and green ranch dressing. I also usually get cilantro, although I don't really care for it very much and I usually end up picking it off.

The part I don't like about Cafe Rio is going through the line ordering my food. I always feel rushed and the language barrier doesn't help. It's always such a relief to finally get my food and sit down to eat.

One of my homes away from home

This is my sister, Peggy's, house in Kent, Washington, and I guess you could say it is one of my homes away from home. I love visiting Peggy and her family and I try to get here every chance I get. This house holds tons of special memories for me!!!
